Leaving for DC

It's certainly been a while since I've posted anything. Here's a brief description about my trip to DC for the inauguration.

We met up at the school to load up on the bus. We didn't get to leave on time. Partially because the bus was late and partially because we were waiting for one of the news stations to come and interview us before we took off. There would be much waiting on this trip.




We left Saturday around noon. The bus ride ended up taking about 30 hours in all getting
from Austin to DC. In 30 hours, there were various ways to pass the time: reading, watching movies, sleeping, talking, playing cards, listening to music, etc. Our director, Dr. Tom Husak, found time to finish up an arrangement of 'America the Beautiful.'





Here's the trombone section eating breakfast at a Cracker Barrel somewhere in Tennessee --roughly 19 hours into the trip....

...and then here we are eating at a Panda Express in DC about 32 hours after we left Austin. Note that we are all wearing the same clothes.

We rented a house about 3 miles away from the White House (apparently, the White House was booked this week). I had the pleasure of having a room that was added onto the house--which meant that it didn't have any heat. This would have been fine if the inauguration was in the spring--sadly, our founding fathers decided that inaugurations should take place in January.

Half of the band stayed at this house and the other half stayed at a house in Virginia. While our house did not have much furniture, it was very close to the city.
